Weather maps reveal when balmy 25C heat will make UK as hot as Ibiza

The UK is set to be as hot as Ibiza in just days. Summer is heading for Britain, with balmy highs of 25C predicted for the country.

The Met Office has said 'much warmer conditions' are on their way over the next fortnight. This weekend temperatures will hover around 20C for many parts of the UK.

But they will peak in the south, reaching around the mid 20s on Monday, June 24, and Tuesday, June 25. It means it could be as hot as Ibiza, with the Spanish island forecasted to reach 25C next week.

The Midlands and the north of England are expected to be slightly cooler, Mirror reports. In its outlook from June 24 to July 3, the Met Office said conditions would be 'predominantly fine'.

Large areas of the UK will be 'much warmer' than in recent weeks, it said. The Met Office said: "At first some thicker cloud could bring some outbreaks of mostly light rain, this mainly affecting northwestern areas.

"However, for most, it will be dry throughout and likely to turn increasingly warm as we move into next week." There is 'a chance this could persist for much of the rest of the period', turning 'increasingly hot'.

Meteorologists say that by the end of next week a 'large range of outcomes' may see temperatures return closer to average. But 'the trend toward much warmer conditions continuing through next week is preferred'.

Higher temperatures means a heatwave could be on the horizon. In the UK, a heatwave is defined as a prolonged period of abnormally high temperatures, relative to the expected conditions at that given time and place.

The Met Office has set specific temperature thresholds for each county in the UK. If the daily maximum temperature meets or exceeds this value for three consecutive days, it is classified as a heatwave.

These threshold values vary from 28C in London to 25C in northern England, Devon and Cornwall, Scotland, Northern Ireland and most of Wales. Chertsey, in Surrey, almost reached its 28C threshold in May, with temperatures soaring to 27.5C - marking the highest temperature of 2024 so far.
