An agreement between Aston Villa and Juventus for the transfer of Douglas Luiz to Turin and for Weston McKennie to be one of two players to head in the opposite direction wouldn't appear to be imminent, despite the move being in the pipeline for some time now. Reports have emerged this week that there are issues surrounding McKennie's end of the deal.

While Luiz himself and Juve wing-back Samuel Iling-Junior are understood to have agreed terms in their respective moves, McKennie's demands appear to be holding up the moves being completed. The US midfielder is away with his country at this moment in time as they prepare to participate in the Copa America, which the States are hosting and which kicks off later this month.

It's not yet known if, in the event an arrangement cannot be struck with Villa, Juve offer another player or more cash in order to ensure the transfer goes through as planned. McKennie, formerly a Leeds United loanee, has been discussing his game and the improvements he is seeking to make to it, while his long-term future remains unresolved.

“Obviously, during Copa America, of course I would love to find myself playing only the eight position, but I think I’m just a person that’s very selfless and [will do] whatever the team needs to get results," he told the USA Soccercast. "I think that’s the most important thing is is sacrificing everything you can to get a result.

“I think one thing I definitely want to improve on is scoring goals. Being involved in plays are important and I think that’s one thing that I had to show because I think, for me, I feel like everyone else already kind of sees me as a guy that fights and tackles everything - but I still like to build up and I put that upon myself to try. Hopefully it works out.”

USA play Bolivia in their first group game this coming Sunday, before they take on Panama and then Uruguay who also make up Group C. McKennie has a single year left on his Juve contract but no new agreement would appear to be on the horizon.
