'Whoever gets in, they're not going to do anything... simple'

Many voters in Bolton North East share the same feeling of frustration. As the Manchester Evening News visited to speak to people ahead of next week's general election, some spoke of their anger at the Conservative government.

But are they sold on Labour? Many said they weren't, with neither party offering much hope. One man, who asked not to be named, told the M.E.N. he's ready for change.

"We need someone who's going to do things differently," he added. Asked what he wants from the poll on July 4, he added: "A total change of government, which doesn't mean having the same old, same old.

"I don't see that we've got any really perfect candidates, but we do know that whenever Labour get in they ruin the economy. It's bad enough now, so I'm dreading what's going to happen when they get in."

George, 76, differs in his views on the party and its leader, Sir Keir Starmer. "I hope he is going to be a good leader," he said. "I do believe he will have the strength, he's not left-wing labour, which is good, that's the reason I left the Labour party, because of [Jeremy] Corbyn."

On what he thinks is the main issue facing the country, George said: "To get the UK back to the way it was prior... to 14 years ago. This government has been a mess."

Christopher Barrow, 63, said he has an issue with 'the general attitude in the country'. "It's on a downer," he said. "We need a lift and we're not getting it from the Tories."

Ann, 69, added: "Whoever gets in, they're not going to do anything. Simple."
