Yellow thunderstorm warning issued for Bradford and surrounding region

A YELLOW thunderstorm warning has been issued for Bradford and surrounding areas today (Monday).

Thunderstorms and heavy downpours which may cause flooding and travel disruption has been predicted by the Met Office for much of Northern England today.

Although the Met Office forecast for the Yorkshire and the Humber predicted a dry and bright start to Monday, they said showers would break out, which will be locally heavy and possibly thundery at times, especially into the afternoon.

It has been predicted to be warm today with a maximum temperature of 20 °C.

Tonight, the Met Office forecast predicts it will be cloudy with further spells of rain or showers overnight.

It will be a milder night compared to previous nights with a minimum temperature of 6 °C.

The Met Office warned what to expect from the thunderstorms should they become heavy. They said: * Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

* There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

* Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

* There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

* There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

* There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.
