Young child taken to hospital after being hit by car in town centre

A young child was taken to hospital today after being hit by a car in a Flintshire town. Emergency services were called to Chester Road West, in Shotton, shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday.

An air ambulance crew joined paramedics at the scene of the incident, before the air ambulance flew to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool. Police later confirmed a child was taken to hospital by "road ambulance".

A North Wales Police statement said: "We were called at 12.26pm today to a report of a road traffic collision on Chester Road West, Shotton involving a car and a child. Officers have attended along with colleagues from the Welsh Ambulance Service and the air ambulance

"The child was taken to hospital via a road ambulance." People were urged to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident, with heavy traffic reported in the area.

The road reopened shortly before 2.25pm.
