Justin Bieber: Thieves Steal Concert Takings

Thieves broke into a stadium in South Africa hours after Justin Bieber performed there and made off with thousands of pounds in cash.

The robbers, equipped with ropes, hammers and chisels, got into a safe room at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, the venue of the 2010 World Cup final, on Sunday night.

They took three million rand (£215,000) in cash, according to local media and police reports.

An officer from the nearby Booysens police station in the Soweto township said officials at the stadium only realised the cash was missing the following morning.

"The suspect had gained entry through the roof," said police spokeswoman Katlego Mogale.

"They broke the tile ... of the bathroom between last night (Sunday) after the concert, and this morning."

A concert employee had put the money in a safe at the stadium before locking up for the evening, she added.

The haul included takings from both Bieber's concert and a gig the previous evening by US rockers Bon Jovi.

The 19-year-old Canadian singer had been performing in South Africa as part of his troubled Believe world tour.

During his time on the road, Bieber's pet capuchin monkey was quarantined in Germany, a stun gun and drugs were found on his tour bus in Sweden, and an altercation with a photographer in Britain hit the headlines.

The singer also came under fire in Amsterdam after professing in a note that World War Two heroine Anne Frank would have been a "Belieber" (a fan) had she been alive today.
