Tractor Kills Three-Year-Old On Somerset Farm

A three-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a tractor on a farm in Somerset.

Emergency services were called to the farm, in the village of Whatley, near Frome, on Monday morning.

Paramedics took the youngster to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, around 13 miles away, but he later died.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said they had launched a joint investigation with Avon and Somerset Police.

"As always, when a fatality is involved the police are leading enquiries at this stage," an HSE spokesman said.

"An inspector has been to the scene. At the moment it is very early days."

Det Sgt Rachel Whelan, of Avon and Somerset Police's Public Protection Unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the boy's family, who have been left distraught by his death.

"At this time we are treating this as a tragic accident."

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said four ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called to the scene after the accident.
