This Adorable Slow Loris Had His Teeth Pulled Out So He Could Pose In Tourist Selfies

A tiny slow loris was found by rescuers with its teeth ripped out in an apparent attempt at making it ‘cuter’ for tourists wanting to take selfies with him.

The animal, who was named Boris after his rescue, was discovered by a beachgoer on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, who later contacted the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT).

Having taken Boris into the care, staff discovered that he was covered in ticks and suffering a broken wrist - and was missing his teeth.

Captive slow lorises have their venomous teeth clipped so that they are unable to bite tourists who want a picture with the animal.

WFFT explained: “Teeth clipping and extraction is common with captive lorises.

"Particularly [with] those that are used illegally as photo prop animals, to prevent them from causing injuries to the people that pay money to get that all-so-great selfie with a wild animal in a far away, exotic place.”

The organisation added that slow loris numbers are rapidly decreasing as a result of poaching and the animals are often taken from their mothers for a life as photo fodder.

Boris is unable to return to the wild due to his injury but WFFT are giving him a permanent hoe where he can now live without suffering.

They added: "He will be able to climb in the trees, receive proper diet, mix with his own species, and never be handled by a tourist or a tourist tout ever again.

"He now has some peace.”
