Andy Burnham has pledged to support Manchester City in receiving 'fair and consistent treatment' from the Premier League. The English top-flight charged its champions with 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations in February following an investigation in 2018.

These include accusations that the club failed to provide accurate financial information and failed to cooperate with investigations spanning nine seasons (2009/10 to 2017/18). Manchester City deny any wrongdoing and the case is set to be heard by an independent commission later this year.

In the meantime, Everton and Nottingham Forest have been issued point deductions by the Premier League for breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR). The Toffees have been docked eight points so far this term, but two of which are currently under appeal.

Forest have had four points taken. Both Sean Dyche and Nuno Espirito Santo have been plunged into a relegation scrap as a result, avoiding the drop zone by just two points and one point, respectively. Burnham, who was born in Liverpool and a lifelong Everton fan, has been a vocal critic of the Premier League's management.

As the season nears its conclusion, the Manchester Evening News has taken a look at everything the Greater Manchester Mayor has said about the treble winners' case.

'I will support Manchester City'

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News this week, Burnham said: "So obviously it's not all in the public domain. But absolutely I will support Manchester City in securing fair and consistent treatment, and transparent treatment. I think that's the issue, that the Premier League need to reassure everybody on, that it's going to be done in a fair way, in a consistent way.

"And as I say, we don't know yet because there's not much in the public domain, but obviously I will absolutely represent both Manchester clubs, both Premier League clubs, as best I can, when they need my support. Obviously, on the basis of, you know, challenging where things have been done unfairly or wrongly, that's what I will do."

'They've ruined this season'

Speaking to Mark Chapman on The Sports Agents podcast in March, Burnham said: "I feel so frustrated about it. They’ve ruined this season, the second to last season at Goodison Park, they have ruined it. The fact that this grand old ground is just shrouded constantly in protest and frustration and anger, it isn’t right to me.

"But not just to us, look at the whole bottom of the table. Nobody knows where they are, nobody knows what is going on. Nobody knows what the next deduction will be. And you look at the process they’ve got Forest and ourselves in now.

"Have they used the formula that they sent to the original commission that looked at Everton, to the commission looking at Forest? I don’t know the answer to that question. Will they use the same formula with Everton?

"Will Everton and Forest be the only clubs ever to be charged under this opaque - I won’t even call it a regime - because I think they’ve been making it up as they go along.

"And this is the point, I think they took this action against Everton and targeted us in the way that they have done to try and prove that they could regulate to push back the idea of a government regulator.

"I think what they’ve done is the precise opposite, they’ve proved they can’t regulate. They’ve proved they cannot do it fairly, openly, and transparently and this is the situation that we are in."

Premier League chiefs slammed... again!

In February, commenting on the Premier League's treatment of Everton, Burnham said: "The Premier League has proved, in my view, that they can't properly regulate football through the way it's treated Everton Football Club. We need a strong, independent statutory regulator for football, learning from all of the wrong things that have been done over recent weeks."
