An appeal has been launched to help find the owner of an XL Bully found wandering on a North East road.

Cleveland Police confirmed the dog was found by a member of the public on Brandon Close in Billingham at around 9:15am this morning (June 30).

They said the dog is now safe and added police are looking for the owner.

They said: “Shortly before 9.15am this morning (Sunday 30 June) police received a call from a member of the public stating they had found the dog wandering along Brandon Close.

“The dog is now safely at a secure premises and officers have been making enquiries in an attempt to find the owner.

“If you have information on who the dog belongs too, or you are its owner, please contact Cleveland Police as soon as possible on 101 quoting reference number 123113.”
