A train station in Belfast city centre is set to permanently close next month as part of preparations for the new Grand Central Station.

The last passenger train will leave Great Victoria Street train station on Friday, May 10, to connect the new rail line to Grand Central Station at Weaver's Cross. The Europa Buscentre will remain operational until the new station opens.

Translink have said Belfast Grand Central Station is on track to open to the public this autumn, with the internal fitout well underway alongside work to the bus stands, rail platforms, track and signalling infrastructure.

For any passengers currently using Great Victoria Street train station, Translink have advised using other nearby stations including York Street, Lanyon Place, Botanic, or City Hospital. Bus substitution services will also be operational.

A number of road closures will be in place around the Great Victoria Street area over the coming months as work on the new station progresses.

From April to August, for public realm improvements, a single lane and footpath closure will be in place on the Grosvenor Road westbound starting before Durham Street junction and ending at the junction with the A12 Westlink. There will also be lane and footpath closures on Glengall Street and the Great Victoria Street / Grosvenor Road junction

From October until project completion, Durham Street will be closed for public realm improvements.

In July and August, the railway line will be closed from Lanyon Place to Lisburn to connect train lines into the new station.

Belfast Grand Central Station is expected to bring increased rail capacity when it opens in the autumn. The Enterprise service will relocate to operate from the new station.
