Birmingham A34 bridge crash sees three men taken to hospital

A major city underpass was closed overnight and throughout this morning after a serious crash which left three injured. Aston's A34 Birchfield Road was shut in both directions following the collision which saw a car crash into a bridge.

Paramedics were called to scene, near Six Ways and The Lighthouse Young People's Centre, at around 9.32pm last night (May 7). Three men were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious or potentially serious injuries.

A fourth patient was checked over before being discharged at the scene. A white Volkswagen Golf was pictured crashed against a bridge this morning.

It was later loaded onto a recovery truck, along with a second vehicle. Accident investigation work was being carried out by West Midlands Police before the force reopened the A34 at around 11.30am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson told BirminghamLive: "On arrival, crews discovered four patients after a car had crashed into a bridge. One of the patients, a man, was treated for serious injuries whilst a further two men were treated for potentially serious injuries.

"All three were transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The fourth patient was assessed and discharged at the scene.”
