Yahoo News BMW owners have the most driving convictions, study finds
BMW drivers are the most likely to have a driving conviction, new research shows.
A study by MoneySuperMarket has found that BMW drivers fill three of the top five spots for driving convictions.
The worst offenders are drivers of the BMW 730d.
Data shows that more than a fifth of drivers with this make of executive car - 21% - will have a driving conviction.
The national average across all cars is eight percent, says MoneySuperMarket.
BMW drivers of a 225d or a 540i barely fared better.
The 225d drivers came second in the bad drivers’ league table - with 20% having a conviction.
And 540i drivers cam fifth, with 19% having a driving conviction.
The top five was filled out by Maserati Gran and Porsche Panamera drivers.
By contrast, Rover drivers are those with the least convictions.

Just two per cent of Rover 416 drivers, on average, have a driving conviction.
The second safest were Rover 216 drivers with a similar conviction rate.
Among other safe drivers were those who owned a Nissan Sunny, with a three percent conviction rate.
MoneySuperMarket said it had crunched figures from over six million car insurance enquiries, submitted over the past five years.
“When taking out car insurance, you will be asked about your driving history, including whether you have any convictions or points on your licence,” said Rachel Wait, consumer affairs spokesperson at MoneySuperMarket.
“If you have previous convictions, whatever the offence, it could affect your premiums at your next renewal.”
The study also found that Scottish drivers - 10% - are the most likely to have received a motoring conviction over the past five years.
By contrast, those driving in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man have the fewest convictions, just three percent.
