Syfy’s Zombie Drama ‘Z Nation’ Debuts With Bite

It’s just under a month until AMC’s The Walking Dead returns for its fifth season, but on Syfy, the zombie apocalypse has already started big time. The horror drama Z Nation kicked off its freshman 13-episode run on the cabler with 1.6 million viewers on September 12. With 695,000 watching among adults 18-49, the series from Sharknado franchise producers the Asylum, was the most watched show on cable in its 10 PM slot and the second best among the key demo.

Z Nation also delivered Syfy’s top-rated acquired series debut results since the rebooted Doctor Who had its premiere back in 2006. Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning helmer John Hyams directed Friday’s pilot. Karl Schaefer serves as EP and showrunner for the series, which is sold internationally by Dynamic Television.
