Gogglebox favourite George Gilbey's mum has shared the poignant last words her son spoke to her before his untimely death.

The much-loved reality star, known for his appearances on the hit Channel 4 programme and Celebrity Big Brother, tragically lost his life at just 40 years old on March 27 after an incident at work.

Following the conclusion of the inquest into his death, George was honoured last week with a heartfelt service and committal at a crematorium close to his Clacton-on-Sea home in Essex.

Linda McGarry, George's grief-stricken mother, has now opened up about their final conversation, which took place mere hours before he suffered a fatal fall.

The 74-year-old, who also starred on Gogglebox alongside her son and husband Pete McGarry, bravely held back tears as she recounted the last exchange with her beloved son.

She recalled that on the morning of the accident, George rang her up for a casual chat. Linda said: "He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working - and asked me for his 'breakfast money'. I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine."

Linda revealed in a chat with The Sun, the poignant last message George relayed to her as their conversation wound down. She shared: "He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, 'I love you' like he usually did. I treasure those words."

As his grieving mum, she remains proud of calling George her son and lovingly mentioned what a "blast" it was raising him.

This month a brief inquest hearing in Chelmsford established the notable reality star's cause of death, reports the Mirror. The court was informed that George accidentally fell through a skylight whilst working on a roof.

Post-mortem investigations concluded the injuries were "consistent with a fall from height," according to Essex coroner's court. He leaves behind seven year old daughter Amelie, who he shares with former partner Gemma Conway.

Linda's sorrow following the 2021 passing of Pete, a fellow Gogglebox star, is made all the more heartrending as she remembers him in an interview: "Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years. I said to him, 'We've not only been 25 years, it's been day and night with each other.' He was my life."

Pete tragically passed away a mere few days after doctors diagnosed him with bowel cancer, despite predictions that he could live for six more months post-diagnosis.

She further delved into her own health struggles during another Sun interview, revealing her Parkinson's diagnosis: "I have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and George took it worse than me. He was a mummy's boy."

Linda found support in her son, who was a prominent figure in helping her navigate through her health challenges. She shares with warmth: "He would fuss over me, change my bedding and do my shopping. He was always nagging me to remember to take my pills. George was very kind and had a heart of gold."
