Dame Joanna Lumley joins Sky News for King Charles' coronation

Dame Joanna Lumley is set to be an anchor for Sky News' coverage of King Charles' coronation.

The 76-year-old actress provided commentary for Sky News' coverage of Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee celebrations last year, and she's now rejoining the news channel for its coverage of the coronation, which takes place in London on May 6.

Joanna will be joined on-screen by Alastair Bruce, the royal events commentator, and presenters Kay Burley and Anna Botting.

John Ryley, the head of Sky News, said in a statement: "Whether unifying or polarising, the spectacle of the King’s coronation is guaranteed to capture the world’s attention.

"With the ceremonial events never seen in this great a clarity, Sky News will offer audiences the highest quality Ultra HD coverage with the best royal commentator in Alastair Bruce.

"He’ll take viewers through this historical moment with his unmatched knowledge and skill to get the tone just right."

Meanwhile, Joanna previously revealed that she avoided watching 'The Crown' because of her links to the royals.

The veteran actress explained that she felt uncomfortable about watching the award-winning Netflix series, which centres on different periods of royal history.

Joanna told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Suddenly, it began to get closer and closer, and they had people acting as Prince Charles, as Camilla Parker Bowles, as Princess Anne. I know them all.

"I know that's not how they speak or what they said or did. People say, 'Oh, well, everybody knows that it's made up.' People don't, people think it's the truth.

"So I decided not to watch it anymore because I have some loyalty, as one would to anybody they know and like and are lucky enough to be friendly with. It's rather ghastly."
