A lot has happened at Manchester United over the past year and more change is likely to happen over the summer.

With INEOS already bringing in Omar Beerada as CEO and Jason Wilcox as technical director, all while trying to secure a compensation package with Newcastle for Dan Ashworth, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is due to make a call on Erik ten Hag's future as manager.

That will precede any transfer decisions, although some already look set in stone. Anthony Martial, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane are all out of contract this summer while others are expected to be shown the door.

One of those is Fiorentina loanee Sofyan Amrabat, who has underwhelmed during his season-long loan spell. And while Andre Onana is not for sale, United will listen to offers for Altay Bayindir - who was brought in last year - as Tom Heaton’s contract expires.

Former No.1 David de Gea has been spotted in United colours having left last summer, with the Spaniard yet to find a new club.

The 33-year-old is biding his time in choosing his next step, having spent almost an entire year out of competitive action through choice. He is said to have received interest from Saudi while Real Betis were once linked with the shot-stopper.

De Gea won the Premier League golden glove last year but has yet to agree a deal with any new club, although seems to be keeping up his fitness. The ‘keeper can be seen going through drills with several coaches while wearing an old United training top in a video posted to his Instagram story.

De Gea left United upon the end of his contract last June after 12 years at the club. Replacement Onana has managed to keep just eight league clean sheets so far - nine fewer than de Gea managed last term.

MEN Sport’s Isaac Johnson says: “United fans can be rest assured that De Gea is extremely unlikely to make an Old Trafford return, especially with Onana being one of just four players off limits in the transfer market.

“De Gea clearly wants game time but at the right club and perhaps for the right price. De Gea might have to bite the bullet and swallow his pride to secure his next move to a lower ranked side. He risks ending his own career if he becomes too picky and stay out of the game for much longer.”

Amrabat 'plotting' life away from United

Amrabat has been one of a few recruitment failures. Paying an initial £8.5m for his loan seemed steep, especially in light of spending limits, and he has not returned the favour.

He has failed to start a Premier League game in 2024 and it is almost certain that United will not trigger his £21m release clause. Meanwhile, Italian outlet Tuttosport, as per Tuttomercatoweb, says that the midfielder’s agents are seeking a summer switch away from Fiorentina.

Milan are thought to be interested in the 27-year-old and have reportedly taken initial steps to enquire about a deal. It’s said Amrabat is not keen on returning to Fiorentina once his loan at United expires.

MEN Sport’s Isaac Johnson says: “For United, the situation is simple - he must not be kept on. A number of United fans will have forgotten about Amrabat, who has started just one match - in the FA Cup - since the turn of the year.

“Amrabat has undoubtedly taken a reputation hit and Fiorentina will be annoyed that his sell-ability has diminished. The notion that he is seemingly averse to a return to his parent club despite his poor form may, if true, further anger the Italians.”
