Beloved actor and comedian Dawn French has been vocal in her support of South East Cornwall’s Labour candidate Anna Gelderd. French, who lives in the constituency, has taken to social media sharing messages of support, and even posting a photograph of herself wearing a ‘vote Anna Gelderd’ badge.

During a BBC Cornwall Hustings this week, candidates were asked who they would like to take for dinner. Anna answered “Dawn French”, and extended the offer to Dawn via X on Sunday (June 30) afternoon.

Dawn replied: "Bring it bleddy on! We can celebrate your win, Anna!!!". Anna has since replied with the suggestion of fish and chips on Looe’s Banjo Peer.

When asked about the needs of residents in South East Cornwall, Anna said: “More and more people agree that we need a fresh start. This campaign has a real head of steam, as shown by backing from a diverse range of figures from Dawn French to the former commander of HMS Raleigh David Pond MBE.

"The people of South East Cornwall deserve better, and I will do everything I can not to let you down if I’m elected as your next MP. I will ensure that we get our fair share under the next Government.”

Anna’s campaign has also garnered strong support from local leaders, including councillor Kate Ewert, who represents the Rame Peninsula.

But she faces a tough fight against long-serving Conservative MP Sheryll Murray, who seems to sustain strong support in the region.
