Denise Welch, a regular presence on Loose Women, has been battling online trolls who have attacked her sobriety. This follows an intense confrontation with Dickie Arbiter concerning Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during the show. In this situation, Denise sided with Prince Harry and his spouse, characterising them as being "completely and continually trashed by the media" throughout their Royal tenure.

The escalating argument ultimately forced co-star Coleen Nolan to step in, but that didn't stop Welch from delivering some scathing remarks. Her passionate defence of Meghan included the highlighted quotes: "I am just sick to death of the bashing that this woman gets (...) we continually berate this woman every day" and "I can say what I like! ", which she fired back at Coleen, who was ostensibly attempting to defuse the situation.

While many ITV viewers commended Welch for standing up for Meghan, internet trolls attempted to shame her about her journey towards sobriety. Responding to an offensive comment on social media platform X, Welch didn't hesitate to retaliate and put the critic in their place, writing: "12 years Dougie! ! Keep up," accompanied by two thumbs up emojis.

Some fans have been left horrified by the commentary directed towards Denise Welch. One stunned social media user responded: "I've seen some horrible comments before, but this is particularly shocking to not only disrespect Denise in this way, but to have so little regard for those who struggle daily with addiction. What a horrible soul.", reports the Mirror.

Denise Welch has been openly transparent about her battle with addiction, like several other celebrities who have made the commitment to an alcohol-free life. In 2023, the ex-Coronation Street actress marked 11 years of sobriety with a revealing Instagram post detailing her tumultuous relationship with drink and how abandoning it positively altered her life and that of her husband Lincoln Townley.

"11 yrs sober today! ! ! Giving up my disastrous relationship with alcohol changed my life, my husband's life and my children's lives. Plus the lives of all who love me", she wrote in the caption of her post.

"It wasn't easy. Addiction is a cruel and frightening illness. But together @lincolntownley and I realised that we were destroying many lives including our own and we did it."

She went on to add: "I now have a wonderful marriage that is the foundation of my life. Our kids are happy and I hope those of you struggling find the strength to stop."
