Drink and drug drivers and a shoplifter faced justice at Aycliffe court

Here are a few of the people who were sentenced at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ court this week.

The five offenders to have been sentenced include those convicted of drink driving, criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly

Oliver Payne, of Hamsterley, near Bishop Auckland, admitted driving a Ford Focus ST on Burnthouse Lane, Cockfield, while over the permitted limit for cocaine on December 16 last year. The 22-year-old was banned from driving for 12-months and fined £405. He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

Andrew Bond, of Jedburgh Drive, Darlington, admitted being drunk and disorderly on the A167 near Coatham Mundeville, Darlington, on June 18. The 51-year-old was fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

Cory Lavery, of Wesley Street, Eldon, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, pleaded guilty to stealing £5 worth of goods from Spar in Bishop Auckland on May 17. The 29-year-old also admitted stealing £19 worth of goods from the same shop on April 29. He was issued with a 12-month community order and barred from entering the shop on Brooklands, Bishop Auckland, for the same period of time. He was ordered to pay back £24 and an additional £85 in court costs.

Darren Thorp, of Wordsworth Drive, Oulton, Leeds, pleaded guilty to driving while over the drink driving limit on the A167 near Pity Me, County Durham, on June 11. He also admitted causing criminal damage at Durham police station without lawful excuse, damaged  cell floor and walls to the value of  unknown belonging to  Durham Constabulary on June 12 this year. The 35-year-old was banned from driving for 20-months and ordered to pay £120 as well as court costs and surcharge. He also was fined £150 for the criminal damage.

Paul Castledene, of  Salem Avenue, Consett, pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order and drink driving following his arrest on June 28 when he was stopped on near his home address. The 40-year-old was banned from driving for two years and fined £1,472. He was also given a six-month sentence suspended for 12-months for breaching the court order and issued with a two-year restraining order.
