This was the moment a driver baffled police by their actions on an empty motorway. Officers spotted the Toyota Prius in the middle lane of the M60 near Stockport.

Images shared last night (June 4) by Greater Manchester Police appear to show the car carrying a taxi licence plate. GMP says the driver was travelling at 40mph - well below the national speed limit of 70mph - even though the road was quiet.

The driver was spotted near to junction three at Cheadle. Police signalled to get the driver to pull over - but what happened next caused even more confusion.

GMP says the driver came to a halt in the 'live carriageway', rather than the hard shoulder. A picture from GMP shows the car with brake lights on while in the left lane of the motorway.

According to GMP, when asked about their actions, the driver 'did not see anything wrong with that'. Officers later reported the driver for their actions.
