Drivers will be set to face a 70-mile diversion route while the A12 in east Suffolk is closed.

Part of the A12 between Blythburgh and Darsham, near Southwold, will be closed over nights between Monday, April 22 and Saturday, April 27.

According to the Suffolk County Council website, the official diversion route is 70 miles long.

While the road is closed, Suffolk Highways will be carrying out urgent works in the area.

The diversion route is so long as it takes drivers along A roads.

This is because some vehicles like HGVs cannot go down smaller roads that others would use as shortcuts.

The diversion route will take drivers along the A1120, A140, A143, A145, A12 and vice versa.
