EastEnders has been shunned at this year’s BAFTA TV awards, after getting no nominations for the first time in 13 years.

After yesterday’s announcement by BAFTA in regards to releasing all the nominees for the upcoming 2018 awards ceremony, there was one glaring omission that seems to have been overlooked.

With other personalities and shows making headlines, such as Stormzy’s surprise nod for his cameo in ITV’s Love Island and Ant and Dec’s double nomination in the same category for Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent, the BBC soap went largely unnoticed

Well, that’s because it wasn’t there at all, after failing to make it into its regular category of Soap and Continuing Drama. It marks the first time i 13 years that the Southern soap has been shunned from the competing list of four, which includes Casualty, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks this time around.

Despite being a tough competitor in soap award shows across the year, including the NTAs, it appears Channel 4’s Hollyoaks and ITV’s primetime soaps are taking over from its dominant position.

The BBC soap has come under criticism in recent months for its far-fetched narratives and gangster plot, leaving many viewers confused by how illogical and nonsensical some of its storylines have become.

Elsewhere, ITV’s Love Island is up for the gong in the Reality and Constructed Factual lineup; with recent charity programme The Real Full Monty also competing against it.

Alongside Stormzy’s nom for Must-See Moment is Blue Planet II’s grieving mother whale and Game of Thrones’ latest season shocker when Viserion is slain by the Night King.

Line of Duty is up for four awards, including Thandie Newton for Lead Actress, Adrian Dunbar for Supporting Actor, Drama Series, and Must-See Moment.
