Emmerdale's Amy Walsh teases 'wedding chaos' for Tracy upon return
After taking maternity leave, the soap star reveals what to expect and chats about coming 'home'
Amy Walsh confirms that her Emmerdale return coincides with a ‘chaotic’ wedding for alter ego Tracy Metcalfe.
Back in the Dales after taking time out for maternity leave, Walsh spoke about the circumstances of Tracy’s comeback at a recent press event. "She's in a wedding dress and she wanted to get married in Yorkshire, didn't she? I don't know why she would do that, come here when she lives in Nottingham!
"The wedding scenes were nice. I mean, it was chaos. I don't know what we can say about what happens,” she added cryptically. Viewers may recall that last year, Tracy announced her engagement to a man named Ollie. As she's seen with a mystery man at the town hall, is he the groom?
All we can tease is that Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) will follow Cain’s son Nate (Jurell Carter) to the town hall, where they spot Nate's ex, Tracy, in her dress. Believing that Nate is about to crash the big day, Cain resorts to old habits and kidnaps him, knocking him out and bundling him into his van.

Talking us through the day from Tracy’s perspective, Walsh continued: “It doesn't quite go to plan, let's say. It was another chaotic wedding day for Tracy, which I only realised afterwards how bad her wedding to David was as well.
"She's really got form for those crazy weddings, but obviously they're way more fun to play than your average wedding day, so it was fun."
Asked how the land lies between former flames Tracy and Nate, who share young daughter Frankie together, she replied: "Obviously I popped back in August and it was quite obvious that they'd had to see each other because they've got a child together. There were moments then that gave that hint that there's still some love there.

“They had a bit of a fling then and stepped away from each other. There was a scene where [Tracy] went back to the hospital to tell Nate that she wanted to be with him, but she saw him with Naomi. So there was a hint there that there was unfinished business.
“There were some references in scripts that Nate was going to Nottingham to drop off Frankie or pick up Frankie or whatever. They'd obviously had some contact but no-one knew how much and no-one will know how much yet."
You’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Tracy. But happily, Walsh said that returning to Emmerdale is like coming home. “I feel like I've come back and I've never been away – genuinely it just feels so normal for me to be here,” she smiled.
"I said it to my mum a couple of days in. I said: 'I've never felt more at home than I have there'. It sounds cringe, I know. But I felt that my first week here, nine years ago or whenever it was. I felt like: 'Oh, I feel really comfortable here!' Coming back has felt exactly the same. How wonderful is that, to come back to work and feel like that?"

On whether she has been able to keep up to date with the ITV soap, Walsh revealed that she’s got some catching up to do. "I tried to keep in the loop and obviously when it was the 50th, I checked back in, but it's really hard. It's cliché and everyone says it, but it's 'bath and bedtime'. So you do miss bits and bobs.”
There’s one notable Emmerdale moment from the past year which is on her list to watch. “I definitely missed a lot, that I'm annoyed about and there's still stuff I want to go back and watch that I will at some point, like little Liv's death – I'm so annoyed that I missed it. I'm friends with Izzy [Steele] and I was like: 'I'm going to go back and watch it!' Having a child has meant that I haven't yet, but I will.”
Much to Walsh’s surprise, it also looks like we can expect a change of direction for another mystery character. "The other day I was doing a scene and one of the characters was doing their new profession,” she hinted.
“I was like: 'Why are you doing that?' And they said: 'Because I'm a trained so-and-so now'. I won't say it, in case it's a spoiler. I was like: 'What? When did that happen?' So it does keep you on your toes, keeping up with character developments.”
Emmerdale airs Tracy’s return from Monday 3rd July on ITV.
