Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has shared his emotional delight at his daughter following in his footsteps as she made her debut in her first-ever role. The actor took to social media to gush over seven-year-old Marnie after she joined the cast of Hollyoaks.

The youngster has been introduced to the Channel 4 soap as Lexi Roscoe, the daughter of Lindsey and Freddie Roscoe, but the adoptive daughter of Joe Roscoe and Mercedes McQueen.

Lexi was born back in 2016 but hours after she was born, killer nurse Lindsey was murdered by Silas Blissett. Freddie couldn't look at the baby without thinking of Lindsey and decided he wasn't ready to be a father, so Freddie's brother Joe and his then-girlfriend Mercedes adopted her.

In November 2016, after Joe's death, Lexi and her half-brother JJ Roscoe were taken to South Africa to be raised by their grandmother Sandy Roscoe, who was named as their legal guardian in Joe's will. But the following year, Sandy's sister Christine returned Lexi to Freddie before he later went to South Africa himself on the run.

But with Freddie back in the village, Lexi, who is now eight-years-old, has also made a comeback and is playing by Kelvin's daughter Marnie. And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with Kelvin being famed for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale while her mum, Liz Fletcher, is also an actress.

Taking to social media, Kelvin proudly shared a clip of Marnie acting on the soap as well as an image of her beaming behind a clapperboard taken as she filmed her debut. He said that he was able to be his daughter's chaperone on set and said watching her made his heart "beam with pride" and he felt "completely fulfilled".

Alongside the Instagram post, Kelvin, who has since turned to farming with Liz, said: "Marnie made her TV acting debut last week as she joined the fantastic cast of @hollyoaksofficial. I was her ‘chaperone’ and I can’t begin to tell you the emotions I felt standing there watching.

"To be standing behind the camera, watching my 7yr old daughter act for the first time in front of the camera, brought so many feelings back to when I first started acting and it felt so surreal to be there witnessing it all again but this time, as a parent. My heart was beaming with pride and it was genuinely one of the very few times I’ve felt completely fulfilled.

"To see your child find their passion and chase that feeling is one of the most beautiful and inspiring things to behold. What a moment for me and more importantly, what a moment for her. Well done darling." He then cheekily added: "P.S. The same week she got that casting, I didn’t get two! Typical."

Emmerdale pal Danny Miller was quick to respond, writing: "Always was gonna be a star lad," while EastEnders star Emma Barton said: "Oh I love this!!! Bless her!" Stacey Dooley shared a string of clapping emojis as JLS star and fellow farmer JB Gill commented: "Go on girl. Well done to you all @kelvin_fletcher."
