Will Ferrell's Leeds United investment could see streaming battle with Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham

Hollywood actor Will Ferrell is poised to join the list of celebrity investors in Leeds United. It is understood Ferrell has purchased a minority stake but will not be a decision maker at Elland Road.

The club have been owned by 49ers Enterprises since last July and they have a number of high-profile minority stakeholders, including actor Russell Crowe, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and major golf champion Jordan Spieth. Ferrell's decision to invest could sound the starting gun on a streaming battle between the Whites and League One-bound Wrexham.

The Welsh club's rise from the National League to the third tier under the ownership of Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been documented in Disney's hit documentary series 'Welcome To Wrexham'. Ferrell, who is a part-owner of Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC, even featured in an episode of the show when he visited Wrexham in February last year.

A report in The Sun says that Ferrell's presence at Elland Road may lead to streaming giants competing to film a lucrative documentary series on United. Amazon previously followed the team during their first two seasons under Marcelo Bielsa's stewardship, with the Argentine leading the Whites to promotion in 2020.

After finishing third in the Championship this term, United are preparing for the play-offs. The first leg of their semi-final clash with Norwich City takes place at Carrow Road on Sunday. Boss Daniel Farke is aiming to steer the Whites back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
