Florida Boy Calls 911 to Give Deputy 'A Hug'

A boy in Hillsborough County, Florida, called 911 because he wanted to hug a deputy, footage released on November 2 by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shows.

Heartwarming body camera and home CCTV footage captures the moment a sheriff’s deputy, named as Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputy Pracht, calls to the door of a house.

A surprised woman, named as Dayana Del Valle, meets the deputy, who tells her he’s responding to the 911 call.

When she is told 911 had received a call, the woman immediately calls her son to the front door, asking him what happened, to which the little boy simply responds, “Well I wanted to give him a hug!”

The deputy first fulfilled his duty by hugging the boy before explaining him that he should only call 911 if he or someone close to him was in trouble or needed help. Credit: Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Hi.

- Hello, is this your home?

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Yeah.

- Everything OK?

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Sorry, I was walking my dog. Yeah.

- We had a 911 call come from [INAUDIBLE].

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Talk to my son. Johnny, come here.

- Does he have a disconnected cell phone?

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Yeah. Come here.

- [INAUDIBLE]

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Bring your phone. Come here. He, honestly, doesn't even know what 911 is.

- Yeah, I'll explain it to him. It's not a problem.

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Did you call this gentleman? Did you call the police? [INAUDIBLE]

- Well, I wanted to give him a hug.

DAYANA DEL VALLE: You called them to give him a hug.

- [LAUGHS]

- What? I did.

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Let me see if it was here. Yep, at 12:41.

- Yeah. [LAUGHS]

- And I know what's your phone number, 1-- well, 911.

- Yeah, but do you know what that's for? It's if you're in trouble and you need help, or if somebody you know is around you and that's in trouble, and that needs help. It's very important. You got to be careful when you call that number, OK?

- OK.

- Only in emergencies. And if you're hurt, or someone else is hurt, and your mom needs help, you know, someone's doing something they're not supposed to do, you give us a call, OK?

- OK.

- All right.

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Say sorry.

- Fist-bumps.

- Sorry.

- It's OK, kid, don't worry about it.

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Thank you.

- You're welcome.

- [INAUDIBLE]

DAYANA DEL VALLE: Come on. Get in this house.

- Hey, it's 10-4, kid got on the phone playing, just wanted a hug.
