A former cafe in Edinburgh could transform into a studio and office for a record company.

According to plans submitted to Edinburgh Council by Mr Fryer, the property on 7 Barony Street could see a new lease of life after the Broughton Deli and Cafe closed for good in 2020 as a result of covid-19.

The space has been laid bare while Mr Fyrer of Fryers Records Ltd submitted an application to turn the cafe into a record store.

The Broughton Deli Cafe was running as an eatery for around 15 years before covid hit. In the cover letter submitted, it was stated that due to the pandemic and loss of foot-fall, the once popular cafe had to close its doors.

On an earlier application submitted by LBE Services Chartered Surveyors back in 2021, plans suggested to turn the basement into dwellings while the cafe would transform into a recording studio which clients Fryers Records Ltd could use.

Following the pandemic, it reads: "The premises has operated as a class 3 deli for circa 15 years; however, the deli has since closed as a result of Covid-19; the lock-downs, associated control measures, loss of foot-fall, loss of business, lack of available labour and rapid inflation in commodities from central bank stimulus have made the business wholly unviable.

"It is important to note that the business was already operating on low profit margins given rental commitments, utilities charges, business rates and operating over-heads without adding on all of the additional pressures of the present economic climate."

This was initially granted by the council. In the latest application, it states that 'nothing about the building' will change and the use will change from a cafe to an office.

In drawings, the former cafe would be ripped out and a recording studio and meeting room will take its place.
