The final polls for the general election are predicting that Theresa May will secure a parliamentary majority at the ballot box, but the scale of her victory against Jeremy Corbyn still in question.

A last-minute poll by ComRes for The Independent predicts that Theresa May will secure the biggest victory since Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister.

It claims that the Tories will win 44 percent of the General Election vote against Labour’s 34 percent – providing the Conservatives with a majority of 74 seats.

YouGov, meanwhile, predicted a Conservative majority of 42 percent, holding a seven point gap against Labour’s 35 percent.

A seven point gap was also predicted by pollsters Opinium yesterday – but with 43 percent for the Conservatives. This is enough to secure the Tories a majority – but it is a significant drop from the 19-point lead the party enjoyed when the election was first called.

Not all pollsters are so confident of a Tory victory though. The most recent figures from Survation were a shock, putting the Conservatives just one point ahead of the opposition.

This marked a 16-point drop for the Tories, and suggested the possibility of a last-minute snatch of power by Jeremy Corbyn.

Britons head to the polls today to determine the next leader of the UK. Last night, Jeremy Corbyn finished his campaigning with a final rousing rally in his Islington Constituency , while Theresa May visited workers at London’s Smithfield Market – before heading to Southampton, Norwich and Nottingham.
