Geologists take selfie after surviving horror helicopter crash

Say cheese! (Picture: CEN)

When you’ve just survived a helicopter crash, what’s the first step that you would take after climbing from the wreckage?

Phone your family to let them know you’re ok? Perhaps even phone a rescue team before that?

Or alternatively, you could always take a selfie.

That’s the decision that a group of geologists took after surviving a helicopter crash - before posting the pictures online to let their families know that they had survived.

There’s always time for a selfie (Picture: CEN)

14 geologists and crew were on board the Mil MI-8T transport craft as it slammed into the ground shortly before take off.

But miraculously, everyone onboard survived after climbing from the wreckage -near the township of Zeya in Russia’s south-western Amur Oblast.

The crash survivors, who suffered minor cuts and bruises, say that the incident occurred after a huge gust of wind blew the aircraft sideways as they prepared to land - causing the rotors to spin into the ground.

Incredibly, the helicopter pilots averted disaster by avoiding a collision with the crew members who were stationed on the ground as they observed seismic activity in the region.

It was a pretty serious crash (Picture: CEN)

One of the crew, known as Eugene, told local media: ‘If it were not for the experienced pilots, we wouldn’t be alive. And it’s even harder to believe that the helicopter blades managed to miss the people on the ground.’

The crew eventually managed to contact rescuers using a satellite phone, and were taken to a nearby town for treatment.

Incredible stuff!
