Girls Aloud interview turns heated live on air just weeks before reunion tour

A Girls Aloud interview turned heated after the singers had a disagreement live on air just weeks before their UK reunion tour is set to kick off next month.

Scott Mills invited guests Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Kimberly Walsh and Nicola Roberts onto his Radio 2 show this week to discuss their upcoming tour which is kicking off in Dublin on May 17.

A clip from the interview shows the conversation descending into chaos after Scott asked the band if they were planning on performing any new covers on the tour, the Mirror reports.

Nicola replied: "I don't think we've got space" before Cheryl chirped in "I've said it several times, people like it!"

However, Nadine disagreed as she said: "I was dead against it. I'm like we've got so many songs of Girls Aloud as our own. Why do we need to be doing it?"

Cheryl insisted: "But we can add just one random cover, it's fun!"

Interjecting, Scott jumped in: "You join as there is a slight disagreement with Girls Aloud in between whether they should do covers or just the hits. We'll be back after this..."

The clip picked up with the girls continuing to speak over one another as Scott said: "Girls Aloud are here and they're still discussing whether they're going to do a cover version or just their hits. Have we come to an agreement yet?"

Ignoring the presenter, Cheryl hit back: "I'm not saying we shouldn't be doing any," before pleading "guys" when she was interrupted again.

Scott stepped in again and told Cheryl to put her point across. She said: "I think we should do all and... for the sake of three minutes more."

Scott asked: "But how long's the show? Five hours?" Nadine exclaimed: "Exactly!" as Scott quipped: "We're going to have to raise hands again."

The noughties girl band's reunion tour kicks off next month after they confirmed last year they were getting back together to play a series of shows across the UK and Ireland.

Announcing the tour back in November, the girl group revealed they had not recorded any new music but wanted to celebrate their back catalogue in honour of late bandmate Sarah Harding.

The 39-year-old tragically passed away from breast cancer in September 2021.

Cheryl explained they had been discussing a reunion for some time but the subject was paused when Sarah sadly fell ill with cancer.

She said in a previous statement: "We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud's 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate.

"But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn't feel right, it felt too soon."

Girls Aloud have stated that the new tour will be "a celebration of Sarah, our music and our incredible fans. We can’t wait to sing & dance with you again.”
