Glasgow M8 lane to close overnight for 'essential upgrades' throughout July and August

A busy section of the M8 in Glasgow is to close overnight for 'essential barrier upgrades' from next month.

Amey is undertaking work on behalf of Transport Scotland to upgrade the Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 13 and 14.

Officials plan to close one lane between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. Work is due to start on Sunday, July 7, and last until Thursday, August 22.

However, Amey say that the work is weather dependent and may be 'cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable'.

A spokesperson for Amey said: "This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.."

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
