'GMB': Piers Morgan left frustrated by guest who wants to scrap Remembrance Day
Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan was left disgusted on Tuesday (November 6) as one guest suggested Remembrance Day should be scrapped.
Ahead of this weekend’s commemorations – this year also marks 100 years since the end of the First World War in 1918 – Morgan and co-host Susanna Reid welcomed Guardian journalist Simon Jenkins onto the morning show to discuss his views on Remembrance Day.
However, Morgan was soon left frustrated with Jenkins’ controversial opinion on the event.
Is it time to scrap remembering those who have died in conflict?

“We’re the only country that does this year after year, after year, after year,” said Jenkins. “We ought to… the art is forgetting as well as remembering. Most of the wars in Europe have been caused by too much remembering the past and grievances,” Jenkins said.
“But no disrespect for what’s going on today, the question is, when do you stop? It’s always about the Germans, the hated Germans.
“We have to look to the future not the past – because the constant reference back to remembrance, when no one alive can remember, there’s an artificial state of sponsored remembrance. I simply think we need to have a sense of proportion,” he added.
Frowning in disagreement, Morgan argued that it’s important to honour those who fought in wars and that Jenkins’ views were ‘disrespectful’.
“Isn’t it important to honour those who fought in our wars though? I think what you’re saying is disrespectful.
Viewers were in agreement with Morgan, with many of them also describing Jenkins’ views as disrespectful.
One person tweeted: I am sorry but I feel this person is disrespectful. Wanting to stop Remembrance Day! It is a day to respect the amazing troops that dies to help us live the life we do now. I won’t give up remembering! #GMB My children also respect those who have fallen too! 11/11 has my heart!
