Switzerland star Granit Xhaka was surprised by what he saw from Scotland against Germany but knows that we still have big players from big teams to be wary of.

The former Arsenal captain lead the Swiss to a 3-1 victory over Hungary to kick off their Group A campaign with a win. That puts them into second place behind Germany and a win against Steve Clarke's side would guarantee their spot in the knock-out stage. But Xhaka, who is fresh off the back of an unbeaten league season with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, isn't taking anything for granted.

He's regularly come up against the likes of Andy Robertson, John McGinn and Scott McTominay in English Premier League battles during his time at the Emirates. And the 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the hosts doesn't mean he and his teammates will be taking Wednesday's match in Cologne as a gimme, especially against a team with a point to prove.

"We watched the Germany game. We were surprised by the performance of Scotland," he said. "We have achieved our first target of three points and now we need to prepare for Wednesday. We know the quality that Scotland have. Big players who play for big teams.

"But we know the first match is always special, especially for Germany in Munich. I hope we'll see a good game on Wednesday. We deserved our three points today. I'm very proud that we won - we had a very good first half.

"It's always good to start with confidence against a good opponent but we are not finished yet. Recovery now - and on to the next one on Wednesday."
