Greater Manchester Bank Holiday weekend weather as forecasters offer surprising news

It is likely to be a damp start to the Bank holiday weekend - but some sunshine is expected between the rain and cloud.

Overnight rain and morning drizzle has made it a wet beginning to Saturday. And Met Office forecasters say there is the likelihood of it remaining wet and miserable for much of Saturday.

But Sunday is likely to be largely dry with sunny spells and it is likely to be much warmer. And there could be further sunny spells on Monday, yet there is the chance of more showers.

After a showery start to the day, a further band of rain is expected to move westwards and pass over most of Greater Manchester later this morning (Saturday), although the downpours are likely to be light.

This should clear by lunchtime but could linger longer in some northern areas of the region such as Bolton, Wigan and Rochdale. These areas are likely to see the most persistent showers.

There could be clearer spells inbetween the patchy light rain but it is likely to remain cloudy and overcast. Temperatures will peak at just 12 degrees celcius and won't reach double figures until late morning meaning it could be chilly at times.

It is a much brighter picture for Sunday. After a potentially damp start it is likely to remain largely dry. After an overcast start to the day there is forecast to be some bright and sunny spells breaking through the cloud as the day goes on.

It will also feel much warmer, particularly in the sunshine, with the maximum temperature expected to be around 16C. In all likelihood it will be a dry start to Monday.

However, there is the chance of some showers, potentially heavy, from around lunchtime through to teatime. However, there could also be some bouts of sunshine and temperatures could reach 17C Fewer showers are forecast on Tuesday. It is expected to be fine on Wednesday as high pressure builds, feeling warm in the sunnier interludes.
