Greater Manchester pub shortlisted in the Great British Pub Awards 2024

A Greater Manchester pub has been shortlisted for an award at this year's Great British Pub Awards. The annual event shortlists venues from up and down the UK and judges them based on a number of categories.

After receiving an 'incredible' number of entries for this year's awards, organisers have whittled it down to the 'very best the nation has to offer', The awards showcase the exciting variety and quality present in the UK pub scene, with an emphasis on excellence for pub goers all around the nation.

The only Greater Manchester pub to be make the final shortlist this year is The Crown & Anchor in the Northern Quarter. The venue on the corner of Hilton Street and Port Street has been nominated in the Stonegate Group Pub Partners Pub of the Year category.

The pub is located in the heart of Manchester's Northern Quarter. Surrounded by some a number of restaurants, bars and shops, it recently underwent a renovation and also encompasses a hotel in the hysteric building.

Other categories at this year's awards span Best Town Pub sponsored by Molson Coors, Best Pubs for Dogs, Best Country Pub, Best Pub for Entertainment and Best Pubs for Families. There's also awards for best pub grub, beer gardens, sustainability and where to watch sport, amongst others.

A host of pubs near to Greater Manchester have also made the final cut. The Swan at Marbury has been shortlisted in the Best Country Pub category, while The Maltings in Warrington has been selected in the Best Pubs for Dogs category.

Meanwhile, The Bull's Head Holymoorside in Chesterfield is up for the Best Pub for Food award, and The Pack Horse in Hayfield will go up against The Crown & Anchor for the Pub of the Year gong.

Last year, independent favourite the Old Abbey Taphouse, in Hulme, was nomainted for the Community Hero award, and was up against entrants in London, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Dorset. It took home the award in recognition of its 'hub-in-a-pub' set up.

Similarly, the Puss In Boots in Offerton, Stockport, was up for the Best Pub For Families category. However, it lost out to The Plough Normanton on the Wolds in Nottinghamshire.

In 2023, a Cheshire pub once described as a ‘lost cause’ was named the best pub in Britain after taking the overall title at the awards in September. The Cholmondeley Arms took home the award for Great British Pub of the Year and Country / Rural Pub.

The winning pubs will be announced in Manchester on September 17. The glittering awards ceremony will be held at Victoria Warehouse next to Old Trafford.
