Hilarious Red-Band Trailer: Russell Crowe & Ryan Gosling Are The Nice Guys

Writer-director Shane Black may have conquered the global box office at the helm of ‘Iron Man 3,′ but if there’s one thing he really knows how to do, it’s tell a detective story.

Black, who made his name writing ‘Lethal Weapon,’ ‘The Last Boy Scout’ and ‘The Long Kiss Goodnight’ before turning director with ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,’ is back on familiar turf with 70s-set noir comedy ‘The Nice Guys.’

In common with his earlier work, this is another off-the-wall, bullet-riddled mystery centred around a mismatched pair - and this time around it’s Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.

And if the trailer below is anything to go by, we’re in for something very entertaining, and very, very funny indeed.

So long as you’re not in the workplace or in the company of minors, watch the NSFW trailer above.

Set in 1977, ‘The Nice Guys’ casts Crowe as Jackson Healy, a professional rougher-upper who is hired to find the daughter of a Chief Justice, played by Kim Basinger (making this an ‘LA Confidential’ reunion - bonus cool points).

Healy calls on wirier, motor-mouthed fellow PI Holland March (Gosling) for assistance - their partnership having got off to an awkward start - but, this being a Shane Black movie, things are a bit more complicated than they initially seem, and are set to get bloody.

Speaking recently to People, Black calls the film a “spiritual sequel” to ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,’ which starred Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer, and proved a career-saver for one of them (we think you know which).

Black goes on to describe ‘The Nice Guys’ as “a little fast, a little funny and a little rough in places, kind of coarse. These guys are working-class dudes, they’re not really sophisticated private detectives, so it’s a chance to do the kind of thriller I don’t see too much of anymore.”

We’ll even see the return of ‘Iron Man 3′s young breakout star Ty Simpkins (since seen in ‘Jurassic World’), briefly glimpsed in the trailer.

After this, Shane Black is expected to commence work on his eagerly anticipated ‘Predator’ sequel, for which the screenplay was recently completed by Black’s longtime friend and collaborator Fred Dekker.

Look out for ‘The Nice Guys’ when it hits UK cinemas on 3 June 2016.
