Hollyoaks' James and John Paul arrested over feud with PC Kiss

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

James Nightingale and John Paul McQueen have been arrested in Hollyoaks as James' feud with love rival PC Kiss escalates.

The two have been competing for John Paul's (James Sutton) affections, with the rivalry spiraling out of control during Thursday's (September 10) first-look episode.

James (Gregory Finnegan) had managed to rope John Paul into being his plus-one for a boozy client meal while PC Kiss was supposedly off meeting his friend Andy.

However, PC Kiss was annoyed when he spotted the former partners together, noticing that John Paul had even managed to get dressed up for the meal.

"John Paul is a grown man who is just hanging out with an ex, and you can't handle that because we have so much history. A lot of it, intensely sexual," James taunted.

PC Kiss understandably seemed jealous, so he first accused James of drinking alcohol in public and then fingered John Paul too for littering when he set down his wine bottle.

"You two are both facing trouble here," the PC warned.

James continued to taunt his love rival: "What are you going to do about it, you basic, jumped-up constable — who's never going to make sergeant because you're full of empty threats?

"Loving the sound of your own voice, pathetically, when you really have no legal power over two old flames who enjoy each other's company. You think you can arrest us for that?"

PC Kiss called his bluff by taking James in for citation, ordering his colleagues to throw James into the cell to dry out for a while before questioning him. He then turned his frustration to John Paul!

"Don't go on a dinner date to decide if you still have feelings for Nightingale. Thrash it out in a cell and make your choice, once and for all," PC Kiss demanded. "It's him or me!"

With that, John Paul was arrested too and thrown into a cell with James! It has previously been reported that John Paul's lock-up will set the stage for one of PC Kiss's dark secrets being revealed next week.

Viewers got the first hint about what the secret might be when PC Kiss was shown visiting an ex-boyfriend called Dean, who accused him of "stripping everything away" from his life.

Meanwhile back in the jail cell, James actually relished some alone time with John Paul once he figured out that there wouldn't be any actual charges.

"I look at you and I think about how happy we were... We could get back there again," James insisted, with John Paul reminding him: "There were some pretty awful times."

James admitted that he wanted a commitment and "family life" with John Paul, explaining that Juliet taught him the value of "wanting and needing".

However, John Paul reacted with scorn by comparing James to "the cold, lonely night" while PC Kiss is the "first flower of spring".

"He'll punish you until you love him," James warned.

Just as it seemed as if the two were going to kiss, PC Kiss interrupted with Mercedes to confirm that they had only been cautioned. In the end, John Paul went by James' flat to reveal his choice.

"I love you Lord of Darkness, but I'm choosing the light," John Paul explained.

As John Paul walked away, PC Kiss arrived to sinisterly warn James that "no-one is going to be a threat" to his relationship again.

Hollyoaks airs first-look episodes Mondays through Thursdays at 7pm on E4, with episodes repeating on Channel 4 at 6.30pm.
