Hull City will this week hope to finally clinch the signing of Tim Walter to take over at the MKM Stadium three weeks after Liam Rosenior left.

Walter, the former Hamburg chief has been locked in talks with Tigers owner Acun Ilicali and vice-chairman Tan Kesler for a lengthy period of time as both sides carry out their due diligence.

That process is coming to an end now and the club are hopeful of confirming their new boss publically later this week and then pressing on with a busy summer of recruitment.

Where are we?

It's three weeks since Liam Rosenior was sacked after the regular Championship season came to an end with the Tigers losing at Plymouth Argyle.

City hoped to have Tim Walter in place by now but negotiations have been ongoing for the past couple of weeks and Hull Live understands from sources close to the negotiations that an agreement is close and will likely be made towards the end of this week after visa applications were made for Walter and his two staff.

A final announcement could come by the end of this week with Walter's first press conference as City's new boss potentially happening over the weekend or early next week.

What has Acun Ilicali said?

"Actually, I always believe - one of the guys in our team, a British guy, I respect him so much, he was in our team when I bought the club, I'm very close with him now, this guy said to me one thing very clearly: 'The success comes when the owner and coach are on the same page when they are very merged the success comes. In my own life, we were always successful when we work together. With Liam we had it and we were number seven and we are proud.

"With this guy, this time, forget about the character's mentality, the football mentality is what I dreamed of for our club. Tim Walter is coming from Bayern [Munich] Under-17s, who has produced many talents in football. He has a 1.82 [points] average in Hamburg.

"His football mentality is the one I've dreamed of. He plays new-generation football with an attacking style of football. At the moment, everything looks very good and I'm very optimistic.”

What do we know about Walter?

Well, he's attack-minded first and foremost. His Hamburg team were top scorers in 2. Bundesliga last season although they ultimately missed out on promotion back to Germany's top flight, something a succession of managers have been unable to achieve in recent years.

A passionate, spikey and fiery character, Walter is a manager liked by his players and supporters but is said to be abrasive at times in the media, particularly at times when things are not perhaps going as well as he'd like.

Ilicali wants a manager who not only entertains but ultimately wins more football matches than it did with Liam Rosenior at the helm, especially at the MKM Stadium and Walter will be charged with doing this.

How will his backroom staff look?

Rosenior brought Justin Walker and Ben Warner with him but both of those have departed the club, but Andy Dawson remains and will form part of Walter's backroom team. His Hamburg assistant Julian Hübner will also join him at the MKM Stadium along with former coach Filip Tapalovic.

What's the time timescale?

As we know, City's owner and vice-chairman have been very open about their pursuit of the German pretty much from the start of the process. Ilicali had been keen to have it wrapped up and announced earlier this month, but for a number of reasons, that hasn't been possible.

The City owner remains confident and relaxed that the agreement will signed and sealed in the closing stages of this week which means we could see a potential announcement by Friday, though that is not set in stone and is prone to change. Sources indicate a press conference could follow within 48 hours, once the club have made their official announcement.
