Hundreds of Dolphins 'Stampede' off Dana Point, California

A group of whale watchers captured a huge “dolphin stampede” off the coast of Dana Point in California.

Footage posted by Capt Dave’s Whale Watching on July 19, shows hundreds of dolphins swimming through the water ahead of the tour group’s boat.

“It’s unknown for certain what causes this racing behavior. It could be the dolphins are trying to evade natural predators such as orcas, racing to catch a food source, or meeting up with another pod of dolphins,” Capt Dave’s said.

“Dolphin stampedes happen spontaneously and can occur anytime throughout the year,” they added. Credit: Capt Dave’s Whale Watching via Storyful
