Rishi Sunak has visited Israel to meet with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During a meeting between the pair on Thursday, Netanyahu said the attack by Hamas that left more than 1,300 Israelis dead was intended to derail regional peace.

"This is our darkest hour," he told Sunak. "That means that this is a long war, and we'll need your continuous support."

Sunak also welcomed Netanyahu’s decision, following lobbying by US president Joe Biden, to allow Israel to start letting aid into Gaza.

Biden has announced $100 million in aid to Gaza and the West Bank and is set to address the US from the Oval Office this evening.

Since the Hamas attack, Gaza has been under "total siege" by Israel, with Israeli airstrikes killing nearly 3,000 people in the enclave.
