New Jay Slater photo released after 'ransom demand' to family

A new photo of Jay Slater has emerged following a sick "ransom demand" being sent to his family. The family of the missing teen, aged 19, who vanished in Tenerife in the Canary Islands in mid-June before Spanish cops called off the search last week, have issued a desperate statement 48 hours after the agonising decision.

Jay's mum Debbie Duncan has given a new statement and released a fresh photo of the 19-year-old who vanished more than two weeks ago. She said: "My son, Jay Dean Slater, came to the holiday island of Tenerife on the 13th of June with his friend to attend a music festival."

Jay's mum released a heartbreaking statement and a new photo of the teen after forensic teams were seen at the Airbnb where Jay was last reported to have been seen. Debbie said: "We don't know anything about the investigation. We're leaving it to the police."

She added: “Let's keep it going, keep it alive. Let them (the police) get on with it, we’ve got to trust in these people.” Lancashire Police, the force from Jay's home county, said today they "remained open" to assisting Spanish authorities if the need arose.

It comes as Slater's family have received vile fake ransom demands, a former Madeleine McCann investigator has said. Mark Williams-Thomas slammed the "trolls" after the family were sent threats almost two weeks after the teenager vanished on June 17.

"So much fake content has been created in the Jay Slater case - mocked up chat, messages, pics," Williams-Thomas said. "It’s a very different world we live in today with social media and online detectives. Overwhelming response from people has been very positive people just wanting to help, even though most have no direct info, just what they have read, seen or think.

"Also a number of people making vile threats and ransom demands (all checked out and have no credibility."
