Katherine Jenkins supported over career announcement alongside Anthony Hopkins

Katherine Jenkins has said she is "thrilled" to be part of an "amazing" new project alongside Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins and director Andrew Levitas. Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony is set to star as composer George Frideric Handel in The King of Covent Garden.

The biopic is set during the period of time the famed opera composer worked on his masterpiece Messiah and is scheduled for a 2025 release. Written by Tim Slover, Welsh singer Katherine will work as an executive producer on the project and is said to be involved as a musical advisor.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Katherine told her 135k followers: "Hallelujah! Thrilled to be part of this amazing project #Handel #hallelujah." She added: "@andrewlevitas I am so excited to see how you tell this truly incredible story."

Commenting on the announcement, one fan threw her support behind Katherine and said: "Anthony Hopkins to play Handel - such a renowned actor! Look forward to this! …congratulations on your role as executive producer Katherine!!!!!!"

"Wow sounds amazing," said a second, while a third commented: "Very exciting news!"

And a fourth said: "This is so exciting @katherinejenkinsobe and @andrewlevitas Handel is one of my favorite classical composers and I’m grateful that you guys are taking time to bring his story to the big screen!"

According to Variety, Andrew said of the biopic: "The storytelling is hinged upon an unlikely pair, who meet each other at their lowest points and together create a magnificent never-heard-before ‘sound for the people’: the groundbreaking masterpiece ‘Messiah’, the annual global bestseller for close to 300 years."
