Kim Kardashian and Kanye West mocked online for 'pretending to be poor'

Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West have come under fire on social media for ‘pretending to be poor.’

Kardashian, 38, shared the above image to her 129 million Instagram followers with the caption ‘morning’ which shows the pair enjoying breakfast in a modest kitchen and dressed in ultra casual sweatsuits.

The throwback image, taken in 2017, is part of a series of images that showed the Kardashian West’s enjoying a visit at music producer’s Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La recording studio in Malibu, California.

The photos, including the one above, show lowkey interiors with 1950’s and 60’s styled decoration and furnishings.

The vintage look hasn’t gone down well with Kim’s huge fanbase with many criticising her and Kanye for ‘pretending to be poor’ in a bid to appear more ‘real’ to their followers.

One frustrated follower wrote: ‘I love when y’all play poor and middle class’ while another quipped: ‘I wish I could pretend being poor instead of actually being it.’

A third wrote: ‘I love when rich ppl try to live like they normal in an old house’ and a fourth joined in with: ‘Millionaire people playing house in a middle-class home!’

While yet another wrote: ‘Y’all really borrowed some poor peoples kitchen for pictures @kimkardashian? Probably set up a photo shoot as a poor couple living their poor life.’

But not everyone was so critical, with a few faithful followers showing their support. One wrote: ‘I don’t get these playing poor comments, what do you expect people to look like eating breakfast?’

And another even defended their humble display with: ‘They want to show us that you can be poor and still be happy together… that is my thought. Good to see you in a pedestrian, regular ol kitchen, it’s quite refreshing.’

The couple of course are extremely wealthy and are estimated to be worth a combined $335 million (£247 million), despite Kanye West claiming he was $53 million (£39 million) in debt in 2016.

Kim was shockingly attacked and gagged in Paris, France in 2016 and robbed of her jewellery. The crime came shortly after she displayed various expensive jewellery items on social media.
