Kirsten Dunst dismisses Hollywood beauty standards

Kirsten Dunst has declared that she does not follow Hollywood beauty standards.

The Bring It On actress has stated that she is not interested in making herself look younger to fit in with Hollywood.

"I still know to this day, I'm not gonna screw up my face and look like a freak. You know what I mean? I'd rather get old and do good roles," Kirsten, 41, told British GQ in a new interview.

The Jumanji star went on to explain that when she was working on 2002's Spider-Man, a producer encouraged her to have work done on her teeth to make them straighter.

"I was like, 'No, I like my teeth,'" she told the publication.

Kirsten also recalled defying Hollywood beauty standards by wearing a gothic black dress to Spider-Man's London premiere, which was apparently not what she was supposed to wear.

"Probably because they wanted me to look like a sexy young woman who would appeal to a broader range of whoever gets seats in the theatre," Kirsten said, adding that she was "never that girl".

Kirsten then noted that her frequent collaborator Sofia Coppola was the only director who encouraged her to be herself on the set of 1999's The Virgin Suicides.

"I had Sofia at 16, who thought I was so cool and pretty when I didn't. She was like, 'I love your teeth!'" the actress remembered.

Kirsten continued, "I realised it (later) in decisions I had made. Not to change teeth, not to blow up my lips, or whatever it is that everyone wants to look like."
