Kyogo sends clear Celtic transfer signal during madcap homecoming with Urawa Red Diamonds on alert

Celtic star Kyogo Furushashi appeared to warn off Urawa Red Diamonds over a potential transfer approach this summer during a bizarre homecoming to former club Vissel Kobe.

The Parkhead fan favourite has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Celtic Park since being brought to the Scottish Premiership by Ange Postecoglou back in 2021 - and continued to impress under Brendan Rodgers while helping secure the domestic double. But reports in Japan have swirled since the end of last season about the prospect of return to the J-League - with big-spending Urawa reportedly considering breaking the Japanese transfer record to test the Celtic's resolve to keep the 29-year-old this summer.

Kyogo appears to have distanced himself from a return to his homeland when addressing fans during Kobe's clash with Kawasaki Frontale, having been asked to speak to the punters. The Japan cap was asked to speak to BOTH sets of fans in a strange moment - despite having only previously played for home side Kobe.

With Kawaski trailing 1-0 he told their supporters: "I think your voices are reaching the players. Please don't give up and cheer them on." Then he offered plaudits to Kobe - who are defending their J-League crown, adding: "It's late, but congratulations on winning last season."

He went on to hint that he would not be making a return to Japan - with his focus on "faraway places." The frontman signed off the speech stating: "I will continue to score goals in faraway places so that I can reach everyone's eyes here, even if just a little."
