Leeds United's pursuit of Joe Rodon could well hit two significant stumbling blocks this summer.

The Wales international started 49 of his 50 appearances for Leeds last season, as part of a hugely successful loan spell that established him as a firm favourite at Elland Road.

He has since returned to parent club Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and Leeds are believed to be very keen on loaning him back for another season, as they look to launch another bid for promotion to the Premier League.

However, according to The Athletic, a move could prove difficult to get over the line given Spurs may be tempted to demand a permanent deal, having already triggered a year-long extension on his contract, which was due to expire this month.

Given his impressive performances in the Championship, and the ongoing financial situation at Leeds, the fee for a permanent deal could subsequently put Rodon out of reach.

It's also claimed that Premier League sides are taking an interest in the Wales international, which could further dent any hopes of a return to west Yorkshire. Recent reports have suggested that Kieran McKenna is a big fan of the 26-year-old.

Rodon himself has already indicated he would like some continuity, having spent the last two seasons out on loan.

In an interview with the Mail, he said: “It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season. I’ve always strived to get to the elite level and hopefully I can get back there with Leeds, but you never know.

“I don’t want to look too far into the future, although I do love it here and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m just concentrating on giving my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”
