Lily Allen slams record label for not addressing sexual assault claims in her memoir

Lily Allen has criticised her record label for not taking action against an industry professional after she accused them of sexually assaulting her in 2016.

Speaking as a guest on The Next Episode podcast, the Smile singer recalled the time a man had encouraged her to sleep in his bed while he helped her gain access to her hotel room after escorting her away from a party.

"I passed out,” she remembered, describing herself as “smashed” at the time. "The next thing I knew, I woke up and he was in my bed naked slapping my bum."

"I recoiled and I got up out of the bed and I screamed,” Allen went on, claiming that the man was trying to have sex with her. “I'd never given any indication that I
did want that.”

The 34-year-old - who publicly launched the allegations in her 2018 memoir My Thoughts Exactly after two years of "keeping it quiet” - added: "I do feel like my career has been f***** with as a result of talking about this stuff, for sure. I really do.”

Allen also told host Miquita Oliver that after her book was published, she "went out for dinner with one of the label bosses" at Warner Music. She had expected them to broach the subject and suggest an investigation of some kind but instead, they dismissed it.

"Did he say, 'Now that we know, boy, are we going to do something about it?'" Oliver asked.

"No,” Allen candidly replied.

Despite her claims, Warner Music issued a statement to The Next Episode podcast following her episode saying: "These allegations from 2016 are appalling. We take accusations of sexual misconduct extremely seriously and investigate claims that are raised with us."
