'Looks Like It's Going to Be a Long Night': Airport Passengers Stuck for Hours After Border Gate Failure

Passengers were left waiting for hours at Gatwick and other airports on May 7 after a UK Border Force outage that prevented systems functioning, including e-gates.

Footage by Karam shows passengers stuck waiting in a corridor at Gatwick Airport. “Looks like it’s going to be a long night,” he wrote on X.

Airports around the country, including Heathrow and Bristol, announced the systems, including e-gates, were “back up and running" early on Wednesday morning.

Passengers were seen cheering and applauding as the e-gates came back online at Heathrow.

The Home Office spokesperson told the BBC “at no point was border security compromised, and there is no indication of malicious cyber activity.” Credit: Karam via Storyful
