Love Island USA host Sarah Hyland responds to being accused of being “disrespectful” during show

Love Island USA host Sarah Hyland has been accused of being “disrespectful” during an episode of the reality show.

Hyland, who is best known for her portrayal of Haley Dunphy in the ABC sitcom Modern Family, has hosted the dating show since 2022, heading up two series so far.

In a tense and shocking moment from Friday's (August 18) episode, Hyland clashed with contestant Mike Stark after he confronted Hyland and accused her of being "mad disrespectful".

During the episode, Hyland announced that the boy who received the fewest votes from the public, Keenan Anunay, was being dumped from the island. Following this, his partner Vickala Gray opted to leave the villa voluntarily with Keenan.

"Before you go anywhere, I just want to make sure that you are absolutely happy with your decision," Hyland asked Gray who replied: "No regrets."

Seemingly out of nowhere Stark, who is friends with the couple, asked Hyland: "Why are you saying it like that?"

Clearly shocked at Stark's accusatory tone, Hyland turned to Stark and said: "Me?"

"Yeah. You sounded mad disrespectful," he replied, to the shock of the other contestants who could be seen placing their hands over their faces.

"I'm being disrespectful?" Hyland asked while remaining composed. Turning to the other Islanders she said: "Okay then."

Coming to her aid, another contestant apologised to Hyland on behalf of Stark blaming his behaviour on the "heat of the moment".

After thanking him for the apology, Hyland added: "Boys will be boys, right?"

Fans have been quick to react to the shocking moment online with many sharing their support for Hyland.

"How dare he speak to Haley Dunphy like that?" penned one Twitter user referring to Hyland's Modern Family character.
